What happened in the previous meeting ?

            Welcome again to the next meeting of writing. On Friday (April, 25^th 2014) at 07.30 WIB, PBI-D students fight again in writing field.  As our opponent is Argumentative Essay. Appetizer has mr.Lala provided to us, that appetizer is a little definition about Argumentative essay.

On slides (Argumentative vs Expository Essay) :

The argumentative essay is commonly assigned as a capstone or final project in first year writing or advanced composition courses and involves lengthy, detailed research. The argumentative essay is a genre of writing that requires the student to investigate a topic; collect, generate, and evaluate evidence; and establish a position on the topic in a concise manner. Expository essays involve less research and are shorter in length. Expository essays are often used for in-class writing exercises or tests, such as the GED or GRE.

            The ninth meeting (April, 4^th 2014) is reading time.  The students are conducting literacy time. Not only for writing session, but also reading is the important part in being literate person. From those supporting activities in literacy, that’s why our lecturer (mr.Lala Bumela) drove us to create reading experiences.

            First, on the slide of 9th Match, mr.Lala showed what he saw in the first half of the season in PBI-D. It is hard to see a constant high quality works produced by my students. That constant high quality works means that mr.Lala even didn’t see his students can gave him a real continuing work produce. In majority, the students can give the best work of them once or twice, after that their works down again. Moving in L1-L2 continuum is a real journey! From that sentence, continuum means that the mobility movement from L1 to L2 is down. Students need more extra effort for balancing that point.

Introduction :

            Policies were changed. People’s consciousness was raised. On indirect lines, we should not desist from writing.  Something that make you think over is what exactly books do or what writing does. The huge problem will appear from that little part. What is connection between what everybody did and what happened in the world can be shown from writing. Uncovering something is Howard Zinn mission on his explicit statement for his article entitled “Speaking Truth to Power with Books¹”.

            Powerful effect on his life is something comes from what he has not before. Certain books changed his life. There are some books that seriously affected his life. It had a powerful effect on his thinking, and still does. It is really happened, books can do that. Even that is so tortuous and complicated, he stated “You have to begin”.

            Meneroka ceruk-ceruk baru. In that sentence meaning as our discussion before, it shows that we avoid something instantly. We have to create ourselves resources (natural resources). Those are the first opening in seventh meeting, March, 21^st 2014. Then, mr.lala told us about written. If our written flat, firstly there is no something interesting as reader said, so the author is not affordance. Secondly, author has to put epicentrum in every written in order to make reader interesting. We have to combine the two parts. Third is talking about gravity. Gravity is like the gravitation of writing. There is interesting point in our written or not is depend on reader and creativity of author.

                I found interesting. That was one of mr.Lala’s slide of powerpoint tittle. On Friday, 14^th 2014 at 06.00 WIB, we started the earlier class. What interesting that he showed us is something like improving our quality of written.  It was about constructing suggestion. He told us about literacy and enlightened first. Those are our start of teaching. We learned what the mean of them.

            No blame. No excuses. Our choices either lead to desired results or they lead to undesired results.  Everyone makes mistakes, but Victims repeat theirs. Over and over. Worse, they often judge themselves for having made the mistake or they judge others for having caused them to make the mistake. We made a hundred weaknesses, even a thousands. And now we think that it will be our direction to move our life in the better  track, better goal exactly. Judge themselves of any weakness is not have to be a burden, because a mistake is a choice that gets us off course from our dreams when a choice existed that could have kept us on course to our dreams.

            Nuansa berbeda dirasakan dipagi hari yang masih terbaluti kabut putih. Riuh nyaring sepatu berbunyi , berlarian, berdatangan memasuki kelas. Ya, itu lah segelintir anak manusia yang sedang mencari segumpal ilmu dalam mata kuliah writing 4. Jarum jam menunjukkan pukul 07.00 WIB. We start the class earlier.

            Jangan jadikan kegagalan kemarin sebagai penghambat hari ini. Semangatlah untuk membuat hari esok lebih baik, melalui hari ini. Phrase bergenre semangat ini seakan semakin menggebu-gebu tatkala hari Jum’at 28 Februari 2014  mr.Lala selesai memberikan suplemen dikelas writing 4 PBI-D. Semangat menggebu-gebu dikarenakan semua alur yang dilalui mahasiswa PBI-D dalam merangkai ide pada critical review minggu lalu ternyata melewati alur yang kurang tepat. Maka dari itu pada pertemuan keempat kali ini mr.Lala menunjukkan kami alur yang tepat untuk dilewati. Kegagalan tugas minggu lalu tak urung membuat PBI-D menyerah, justru PBI-D mendapatkan semangat baru untuk berkreasi pada alur yang baru. We will show our best ^_^

Buku : Sang Peng-Kontroversi Sejarah

            Howard Zinn seorang sejarawan Universitas Boston, penulis dan aktivis politik telah lahir di kota New York, 24 Agustus, 1922, Keberaniannya mengungkap sejarah baru dan mematahkan sejarah lama, dianggap selalu menentang ilmu peradaban para sejarawan. Aktivisme seakan menjadi focus utama hidupnya. Dibuktikan dengan perihal menentang perang Vietnam. Ketika ia berbicara pada berbagai aktivitas protes beserta beberapa aktivis anti-perang terkemuka lainnya, ia mendapatkan perhatian nasional terhadap sisi berlawanan yang ia perjuangkan.

            Keterlibatan Dr.Zinn dalam gerakan anti-perang mendorong ia menerbitkan dua bukunya: "Vietnam: The Logic of Withdrawal" (Vietnam, Logika Menghentikan Perang) (1967) dan "Disobedience and Democracy" (Ketidak patuhan dan demokrasi) (1968). Sebelumnya, ia juga menerbitkan "LaGuardia in Congress" (LaGuardia dalam Kongres) (1959), yang mendapatkan penghargaan American Historical Association's Albert J. Beveridge Prize; "SNCC: The New Abolitionists" (SNCC: Gerakan penghapusan perbudakan Baru) (1964); "The Southern Mystique" (Mistik Selatan) (1964); dan "New Deal Thought" (Pemikiran Gagasan Baru) (1966). dr. Terkadang imajinasi hanya dianggap sebagai kabut hitam yang akan menghilang oleh  tiupan angin semata. Seiring dengan kehidupan yang penuh cahaya nyata , imajinasi itu menghilang, entah tersapu angin apa, tak pernah lagi menghampiri hiruk pikuk kehidupan dunia. Ya, memang realita kehidupan tak akan sejalan dengan klise buram dunia imajinasi. Namun, hembusan angin dari arah yang berlawanan justru meniupkan anggapan bahwa imajinasilah yang akan menghidupkan semua roh pikiran seorang penulis dalam menorehkan untaian kata dalam karya brilliant mereka.

Februari, 14 2014 bertepatan dengan hari kasih sayang (anggapan sebagian orang), bertepatan pula dengan kasih sayang mr.Lala dalam memberikan kesempatan kedua (second chance) kepada PBI-D untuk melakukan penulisan karya tulis dalam bentuk class review dan chapter review kedua. Kesempatan tersebut didapatkan sebagai cara “survive” mahasiswa pada pembelajaran writing 4.

                                              Who will be the host of writing 4 ?

            Berhadapan kembali dengan tugas-tugas yang biasa menjadi santapan mahasiswa. Kini, semester 4 dihadapkan dengan mata kuliah writing 4 dengan dosen bernama Mr.Lala Bumela (eLBi). Pada pertemuan pertama MK tersebut, Mr.Lala melakukan re-introduction dengan diikuti oleh pengenalan syllabus mengenai writing 4.

            Seperti yang telah mahasiswa ketahui bahwa Mr.Lala adalah dosen berkualitas yang selalu berusaha membuat mahasiswanya menjiwai setiap mata kuliah yang akan beliau ajarkan.  Dosen yang menjadi pengajar di dua universitas ini mempunyai segudang aktivitas yang akan dilalui di tahun 2014 ini.
