“The Modifier Worldview of Historical
Facts”
Introduction:
Howard
Zinn is the great American historian and social activist. He
has change our mind and broke the statement that history just written by the
winner. But, it just a falsehood. The real is history can be written by
everyone. In the book of Howard Zinn "Speaking Truth to Power with Books" talking about by reading a
certain book of his life be changed, be better than before. Indirectly, this case
illustrates the relationship between the invisible book created by the author
to change the consciousness of the reader. In other words, the book can affect
readers and change view of world.
The things
that very interesting from Howard Zinn he is brave to tell the dark side of
history in America. Zinn a well-known to broke the falsehood of Columbus, whereas
Columbus is someone who have big effect for American people’s. He also brave to
critic the opinion of Morrison that Morisson not falsehood about the cruel of
Columbus, but the fact is Morrison more tell about heroism and neglectful the
wicked of Columbus.
Summary:
According to
Howard Zinn as a whole that every book he has ever read will affect a person's
life. Changing one's life by altering his consciousness. According to Howard
Zinn also that increasing one's awareness will influence the change in the
world. Thus we can know that the book has truly energy immeasurably if the
reader can capture the intent and purpose of writing the book.
Howard Zinn
is an aircraft crew are aiming bombs in World War II. When it is Howard Zinn
did not know what was happening in people's lives when the bomb was dropped.
This is because it is located at an altitude of 30,000 feet. Howard Zinn was
guilty of killing the innocent but she remained still do not understand what he
had done. After the war, Howard Zinn read the book by John Hersey's "Hiroshima". After reading it
he knows what happens to humans when the bomb was dropped. In addition to the
book by John Hersey, Dalton Trumbo's novel titled “Johnny Got His Gun” also inspire Howard Zinn. Since then he quit
his job as a crew war United State.
In addition
to talk about the greatness of the book which is able to change his life,
Howard Zinn also tells a little about the other side of Christopher Columbus is
not known by many people. He wrote it in a book entitled "A People's History of the United States". He wrote the
book caused controversy. This is because of a book he wrote is contrary to the
public knowledge that glorifies Christopher Columbus as a hero, a great
inventor, the pious reader of the Bible. The reader is presented with the fact
that Chrisoper Columbus was a murderer, greedy people who are looking for gold
or mutilate the person who desires is surprising his readers.
Howard Zinn
said that Christopher Columbus did not deserve to be called a hero and a great
inventor even the pious reader of the Bible. This is due to the fact the
Christopher Columbus was the one who did the cruise because they want to seek
wealth. Judging from its original destination only voyage Columbus has been
based on the thirst for wealth. In addition, Christopher Columbus also
committed crimes against the indigenous population of the land which he calls
the "New World". Crimes
that Christopher Columbus did was tortured the natives, making slaves and
committing a crime of genocide. The data obtained by Howard Zinn sourced from
journals written by Christopher Columbus.
Therefore,
Howard Zinn calls on an article that should be written based on facts and real.
This is because he realizes that thought can affect readers in a book that will
ultimately result in changes in the world anyway. This would not be a problem
if the book is written with the facts, but what happens when it does not fit
the facts. Many things will be obscured truth. Like the history of writing
obscure some facts and make a narrative that fits the ruler. Writing good ideas
that will be initially used effects the world and affect the lives of readers.
Zinn also makes us aware of the important role assumed by a writer.
Howard Zinn
is the author can participate in the effort to change the world by pouring
their thoughts in writing and books. The author is successful in achieving the
aims and objectives of writing can easily influence his readers. Authors and
readers are the driving agent of consciousness.
There is something
new for me about Zinn, that he was surprised to hear that Barack Obama getting
the Nobel Peace Prize, whereas Obama is president who is leading two wars was
given the Nobel Peace Prize. Committee of the Nobel Peace renowned for their
assessment shallow, dominated by empty rhetoric and movements , as well as
ignoring the blatant violation of the peace of the world. A person should be
given the Nobel Peace Prize is not based on the promises they make, as Obama
“an eloquent maker of promises” but on the basis of the achievement of real in
ending the war. Obama has continued deadly military action and inhuman in Iraq,
Afghanistan, and Pakistan. Nobel Peace Prize Committee should retire and hand
over the giant fund to some international peace organization which is not
fascinated by the star and rhetoric, and have an understanding of history.
Critique:
There are
many things that neglected in Howard Zinn aritcle. First, he don’t tell the real of who is
people who found of America. He don’t tell clearly that the research of America
is a Muslim. Second, there is
interest things when I want to critic to zinn, that he also have taking a
chooise about his ideology when write the history, he just
like pressure the real facts which just he like and neglected the other for
example who is the real discovery of America. Not tell about the other things,
and third Zinn less explanation on influence
the policy, the things that dislike about writing styles Zinn there is the absence of
some references and
footnotes. Zinn just say at the end of his book
that he told all
based on the experience of teaching and of
the books which he lists at the end of the
page.
Conclusion:
Finally
words, Zinn remains a Howard zinn. Inspirational writer and activist who firmly
and brave. Zinn remarkable life and work are summarized best in his own words. Zinn did not want to live
a lie, so he talked about the truth
of a situation without
any truth or concealment of a story a
story deflection.
